March 25 at 15.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (ul. Lenin, 103) a unique project starts - the exhibition "In Search of Eternal Beauty". The uniqueness of the project lies in the synthesis of painting and music - in a joint experiment by the famous artist Vladimir Pronin and the multi-genre composer, jazzman Alexei Kolosov. The idea of synthesis arose among the composer and artist in the early nineties and resulted in the project “Iconostasis”. Then the composer wrote a work in the style of World music. Now, after more than twenty years, the artist’s ornamental neo-symbolism will appear before the Kaluga people to the rhythms of jazz.
A key component of the exhibition is the pentapt “The White Sea”, written by the artist based on the work of the photographer Vitaly Zaitsev. As Pronin himself admits, he had never been to the White Sea, but fell in love with him after looking through a series of photographs of his friend. “When a person is passionate about something, in love and delight, his emotions can infect and ignite. That’s how they lit me up with this idea, the theme of the Russian world. I discovered another beauty, new, although it may be old, but long lost. That is why the exhibition is called in search of timeless beauty. I tried to convey my personal perception of eternal beauty in my canvases, ”says the artist.
The music for the pentaptich, written long before the picture, is also inspired by Russian motifs. The composition has the influence of both Russian folk music and Russian romantic music of the 19th century, and all this is in the interpretation of the author’s - Kolosovsky Russian jazz. “My work is called“ The Window ”, but I would like to emphasize that this title does not contain the usual image of a window into the outside world, but rather a window into oneself, into the Russian world, where one can see the Russian landscape and feel the Russian mood. This is perhaps my only jazz composition, where the Russian theme is expressed so clearly and distinctly. And I am pleased that the artist immediately heard this, I hope Kalugans will also feel my emotions, ”said composer Alexei Kolosov.
While this is the first project of the famous creative duet in Kaluga, both the artist and the composer plan to create an exclusive project specifically for this area. They will talk about their plans at the opening of the exhibition, which will be held March 25 at 15. 00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts.
For reference
Vladimir Pronin . Born in 1955 in the suburbs. He graduated from the Fedoskino school of miniature painting and the Moscow Textile Academy, faculty of applied art. The author is the creator of his own artistic style, which can be defined as ornamental neosymbolism. The unique creative style has attracted art lovers around the world to his works for more than 25 years: in the USA, Germany, India, Canada, Australia, England, France and, of course, in Russia. The artist’s works are in private, corporate and museum collections.
Alexey Kolosov . Born in 1958 in Moscow. He graduated from Moscow University, the faculty of journalism and the Music and Pedagogical College. Gnesins in the class of guitars. He is called the author of Russian blues, although the musician himself is against genre labels. Its genre diversity still amazes critics. Alexei Kolosov began with the author’s (bardic) song - his urban romances have long been considered folk. Then he became interested in jazz art: he performed on the same stage with eminent jazzmen who performed his original compositions. He is the author and organizer of high-profile jazz festivals and tours. Recorded 5 albums.
In parallel, he worked as a composer for films. He wrote music for feature films: “The Diary of Professor Gauthier” (1995), “The Judge in the Trap” (1998), “The Game of Gin” (1999), “The Last Ribbon of Creppa” (2000), “Lost in Paradise” (2006)
He is also called the historian of jazz - for almost 30 years he conducted the program “When there is not enough jazz”, first on the radio of Youth, then on the radio of Radio Russia. Alexei Kolosov is the only jazz journalist with a Ph.D. And in 2007 he was awarded the Golden Order for "Serving the Art."
