The Museum of Norilsk IEC holds from November 4, 2017 to January 14, 2018, the largest inter-museum exhibition project in Norilsk’s history dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the 1917 revolution. The exhibition "At the forefront of new life" covers almost all types and genres of Russian art during the pre- and post-revolutionary years of Russian history, from 1907 to 1922. The works of famous masters appear at the exhibition as a symbol of the future, a prototype of a new time and a premonition of future changes, when a revolution in art accompanied and even outstripped revolutionary events in society.
The curators deliberately refused to demonstrate only the most radical artistic statements of the time; the focus is on more traditional art styles - realistic, figurative works. These are the artists - founders and exhibitors of such well-known “pre-October” art associations as “The World of Art” (A. Yakovlev, M. Sokolov) and “The Partnership of Traveling Art Exhibitions” (V. Serov). In the first post-revolutionary years, they mostly continued to work in the same style, participating in activities, for example, of groups such as “Four Arts” (K. Istomin).
To observe how social and personal upheavals influenced the creative manner of such different artists as A. Rodchenko and A. Ostroumova-Lebedev, K. Korovin and I. Nivinsky, P. Trubetskoy and L. Popov, O. Rozanova and M. Cheremny will be Norilsk audience.
Natalya Fedyanina, director of the Museum and Norilsk Museum and Exhibition Complex, co-curator of the exhibition: “Oddly enough, the exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the revolution does not have the revolution itself. Our main character is time. In the art world, the period from the 1900s to the early 1920s, which covers the exhibition, was perhaps the time when "all flowers bloomed." The time when a variety of creative manifestations coexisted simultaneously. A time of social upheaval, anxiety and complete freedom in art. This is how it appears in the inter-museum exhibition project, the most significant in the history of Norilsk in terms of the scale of the names presented. It’s very important for us to provide our Norilsk audience with the opportunity to see the originals of the works of outstanding Russian artists of the early twentieth century and, perhaps, to see the art of the revolutionary era in a completely new way. ”
The exhibition will feature paintings, graphics and sculpture from the collection of the Krasnoyarsk Art Museum. IN AND. Surikov and a number of large private collections in Moscow: collections of L. Agafonova, T. and S. Litvin, gallery "Ark". In total, about 70 works by 25 authors will be exhibited in the halls of the art gallery of the MVK Museum of Norilsk. The publication of a full-color scientific catalog of the exhibition “At the Vanguard of a New Life” is planned.
The exhibition is considered as one of the key events of the "Night of Arts 2017" in Norilsk.
