His regalia and merits can be listed for a long time. The artist, philosopher, naturalist, mathematician, Lucas Dublin (1933) is known primarily as the creator of magnificent church stained glass windows. His name is already inscribed in the Swiss history of this type of art along with the names of Marc Chagall, Otto Steiger, Hans Stocker.
The exposition at the Toy Museum is Dublin’s first exhibition in Russia. However, it does not represent his famous mobile designs of glass and metal, graphic portraits and paintings.
The heroes of the exhibition are aluminum tubes of paint, the will of the master turned into samurai, acrobats, fashionistas, beggars. Tuba folk has long lived in the artist’s workshop in the distant Swiss Jura. Created outside of exhibitions and orders, these figures do not claim an important place in the work of their author. However, sometimes such “non-public works” are able to tell more about him than monographs, persistently postulated principles of creativity and anniversary exhibitions.
Even their creator cannot explain the reason for the birth of these funny figures. In any case, the ecological theory that determines, according to Dublin, his long-standing love for ready made, seems obviously insufficient here. Rather, it affected the creative attitude to life in general, birth and growing up in a musical and artistic family, love for children and… eternal longing for harmony, even in their own little world.
