The exhibition is a voluminous guide to the creative biography of Joseph Brodsky and covers all periods of his life. The exposition reveals Brodsky’s three main themes - time, space, language - and plunges it either into the atmosphere of a communal apartment in Leningrad, then into the mood of the winter Venetian embankments or simply into the cosmic state of pure language.
The “Path of Language” project allows the viewer to cross with the poet a special territory in the space of which the latest social reality, its critical states are formed, planetary connections of culture are opened and the main outlines of civilization that entered the third millennium are outlined. It begins with deeply personal “dimensions” of the poet’s life, with his Leningrad communal apartment, with a simple closet, where everyday life, its regularity and its traditions turn into a sacred history. Documents, photographs, drawings of the poet are collected in their natural evidence of the vector of fate of Joseph Brodsky, his creative memory, the birth of his language as metaphorical thinking, as the purpose of man. Through everyday life, through the "near" world, the viewer finds himself in the space of unique poetic coordinates, in Venice by Joseph Brodsky, in the center of his thoughts on the sublime meanings of culture, where, in the poet’s words, "we serve beauty." The penetrating works of Sergey Bermeniev, photographic objects of Tatyana Krol, the magical world of photos of Lev Melekhov, acoustic video installations of Vladimir Tarasov and Sergey Katran, lightboxes of Alina Maksimenko, text images of Vladimir Nasedkin, cinematic editing phrases by Andrei Khrzhanovsky bring a special phenomenality to the speech and Irenifes verbosity and looking at nicks on the forest paths of his poetry.
One of the main collections of Joseph Brodsky, prepared by the poet himself in 1990, is called "Part of the Speech." Joseph Brodsky always regarded his work as an inseparable part of a single stream of speech, as an organism in which each element carries a universal integrity and meaning. Poetic imagery of the poet revealed not only a new form of artistic language, but also determined its fate, correlated with the fate of the human person and the fate of the country. She concentrated in her designs the immediacy of feeling and intellectual evidence of time, its evolution and its routes passing through man, history and culture, where, according to Joseph Brodsky, "the eternal power of linguistic associations reigns."
The exhibition, like the Borges garden of diverging paths, invites viewers to go their own way of learning about Joseph Brodsky and fill in the gaps in his general biography, where Brodsky is a guide, guide, mediator and pilgrim to a country of new artistic reality.
Within the framework of the project, a creative meeting will be held by film director Andrei Khrzhanovsky, the author of the film “One and a half rooms, or a sentimental journey to the Homeland”.
