The exhibition of author’s ceramics by Kaluga artist Tatyana Astakhova “Windows to the Past” is a look at the past of her native city through the eyes of the younger generation, to which Tatyana belongs. Kaluga is the hometown of the artist T. Astakhova, in which she was born and raised, took her first steps in art. Then there were many years of study in Moscow, work in St. Petersburg, but the ways nevertheless led her to her hometown, where she lives and works at the moment.
For the first time, a young artist Tatyana Astakhova turned her eyes to the outgoing charm of an ancient city several years ago, then a series of works in ceramics, and then in porcelain, was laid. Window. They are like the “eyes” of old houses looking at us from the past. Sometimes “sad”, sometimes “curious”, “considering” us, running somewhere on business.
The exposition presents miniatures in ceramics of those very windows, with carved platbands and shutters, rounded tops of frames, large and small, so different and unique. Using her experience in ceramic and porcelain industries, Tatyana brings glass to the decor of her works. And now they began to play with new colors and acquired the charm of the undeservedly forgotten motifs and plots of old windows.
Taking only one architectural element as the basis of her works, Tatyana Astakhova developed the theme and, while continuing to work on it, found new inspirations, revealing unique works of art to the light.
Expanding the creative range, T. Astakhova turns to porcelain painting and copyright tiles, in which the plots of the same old Kaluga. Departing to the heights of the manor house, windows of houses, fragments of ancient facades that are alive only in photographs and in the artist’s memory.
Professional development of the artist T. Astakhova began in Kaluga. Children’s Art School, then College of Culture - Department of Ceramics, then study at the Moscow State Pedagogical University named after S. G. Stroganova in Moscow at the Department of DPI, Department of Ceramics. After graduating from the academy, she worked in ceramic industries in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Despite her young age, T. Astakhova is an accomplished artist, participant of many regional and national exhibitions and competitions, since 2010 a member of the Union of Artists of Russia of the Kaluga branch, author of the tea porcelain service Roofs of Peter created at the Imperial Porcelain Factory in St. Petersburg. Behind her are two solo exhibitions and more than thirty totals throughout Russia.
The artist’s works are in private collections in Russia and abroad.
