On September 14, in the Nagornaya gallery of the Exhibition Halls of Moscow Association with the participation of ROSIZO, the NCCA, the State Museum of V.V. Mayakovsky, the Creative Union of Russian Artists and the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art, an exhibition and educational project LIGHT FOR ENLIGHTENING is opened. The exhibition is held as part of the parallel program of the 7th Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art - 2017 and the special project of the Creative Union of Russian Artists “Experimental Creative Workshops 2017”.
The project “LIGHT FOR ENLIGHTENMENT” is dedicated to the development of ideas and discoveries of the era of the Russian avant-garde, as well as creative strategies for the synthesis of various practices and forms of contemporary art.
New concepts for understanding the synthesis of art and science were announced by the futurists at the beginning of the 20th century. The development of creative strategies of philosophers, artists, poets and musicians went beyond the framework of individual practices and was integrated into the general art space. The exhibition "LIGHT FOR ENLIGHTENMENT" is a dialogue of avant-garde discoveries and modern developments. This is the construction of the author’s concepts of lighting engineering based on mathematical calculations, logical or associative thinking: from color symbolic symbols to conceptual spatial light forms. This is a conceptual search for light in the field of information and sign identification of signals, communication channels, discourses, contexts, sign geometric shapes. The study of light spaces through the sound rhythms of electromagnetic fields, geocosmic pulsations, poetic improvisations, iconic graphemes. The project is based on the understanding of light, not only as an idea, theory, mathematical formula, spectral radiation, but also as the formative energy impulse of LIGHT as color, COLOR as sound, SOUND as a sign, SIGN as a form, FORM as thought.
The exhibition invites the viewer to a creative laboratory, to the space of interaction of weightless light projections, real physical forms and shadow geometries. The works of famous contemporary artists are presented - painting, graphics, objects, installations, media, as well as musical, theatrical and poetic events, creative meetings. This is an invitation of the viewer to co-creation, to a lively dialogue with the avant-garde heritage.
The exposition includes archival materials from the collections of the State Museum of V.V. Mayakovsky, thematic media digests on the theoretical heritage of the leaders of the schools of Vhutemass, Bauhaus, V.E. Meyerhold’s studio, Lev Theremin’s laboratory, modern works by students of the NCCA “Moving Pictures” workshop, students of Moscow State Pedagogical Academy them.
