From June 10 to August 8, 2021, as part of the International Diaghilev Festival, the Perm Art Gallery will host the exhibition “Pillars of the Russian Avant-garde. Three points of view. Nikolay Vatagin. Georgy Litichevsky. Vyacheslav Koleichuk ". This is a joint project of the Perm Art Gallery, the International Diaghilev Festival and the Moscow gallery "GROSart".
The “Pillars of the Russian Avant-garde” are the iconic figures of the innovators of Russian art of the early twentieth century: Malevich, Kandinsky, Tatlin, Larionov, Konchalovsky, Mashkov, Stepanova and others, who called themselves futurists. “Three points of view” is a look at avant-garde futurists by masters from our days and the recent past: Nikolai Vatagin, Georgy Litichevsky and Vyacheslav Koleichuk. A look designed to "revive" the key participants in the avant-garde process, to show their images in the relative completeness of individual profiles, so that as a result, as a result, you can more clearly and deeper feel the unique energy of their artistic discoveries.
The first of the characters in the new "mystery" is the "painter addicted to sculpture" hereditary artist Nikolai Vatagin. The fifteen half-meter-high wooden figures of avant-garde creators painted with oil, created by him, at first convey more or less similarity with their lifetime photographs and descriptions of their contemporaries. But upon closer examination, they express a figurative pseudo-dyed perception by the author of their models. It aims to identify the fundamental core of their personalities and characters. This "funny prank about Russian artists" turns into a convincing, "serious" and even dramatic "pantheon" of the pillars of avant-garde art.
The "carrier" of the second point of view - an adherent of current artistic practices Georgy Litichevsky - creates an original comic book story on twenty-two sheets in his usual monochrome graphic way. It unfolds a witty, dynamic tape of events, supplied with sparkling comments and remarks, dedicated to the main milestones in the formation, development and even "canonization" of the Russian avant-garde.
The author of the third point of view is the classic of Russian kinetic art Vyacheslav Koleichuk, who actively developed the plastic ideas of Malevich, Rodchenko and Tatlin. He successfully implemented the paradoxical synthesis of reverently serious and travesty-playful principles within the framework of his own avant-garde "reincarnation". The "Total Theater" invented by him encompasses, in fact, the entire art of the kineticist with his "mobius", "impossible objects", "standing threads", "soaring forks, spoons" and other alogisms.
The "three points of view" brought together for the first time in the space of a single project on the site of the Perm Art Gallery are designed to visually emphasize unexpected forms of productive dialogue between history and modernity, between the ironic "mythologization" of key figures of the Russian avant-garde and the "monumental" transformation of their ideas, between the subjective world of personal artistic preferences and objective immutability of the laws of art, which are subject to constant testing and confirmation of time in different forms, including in the game.
