The interweaving of sounds is a project of the Hungarian artist Jeanette Sirmai, which is based on the idea of visual presentation and articulation of national ornaments. Especially for this exhibition, the artist studied Russian ornaments from the collection of the All-Russian Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts, working with exhibits from the departments of fabrics, wood and a rare book, which will be presented at the exhibition.
Plexus of sounds - a project at the intersection of design, media and folk art. Jeanette turns the ornaments used in traditional folk embroidery into music. Ornaments are transferred to punch cards using a laser. Punched cards are played through the music box, so the visual world of the ornament will appear before the viewer in his musical embodiment. The resulting melodies resemble the work of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.
… The “Plexus of Sounds” project adds another dimension to the perception of traditional embroidery, affecting various feelings and inspiring visitors to interact with exhibits.
