From December 16, 2016 to January 15, 2017, the All-Russian Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art will host an exhibition of costumes from the films of fairy tales shot at the film studio named after A.M. Gorky. The exposition will feature dozens of rare costumes, hats and accessories from such legendary paintings as “Frost”, “Barbara Beauty, a long braid”, “Fire, water and… copper pipes”, “After the rain on Thursday” and many others.
At the exhibition it will be possible not only to see, but also to understand the principles of creating the image of the hero as a whole, to appreciate the skill of the people who made the costumes. It will be possible to visually establish the authenticity of the correspondence of the exhibits to the image of movie heroes, for example, using Kashchei the Immortal costume (Oleg Tabakov) made of golden brocade and trimmed with large stitch, an oriental dressing gown made of silver brocade by Shakh Babadur (Semyon Farad) from the movie “After Rain on Thursday”. From the film “Morozko” Ivan’s caftan (Eduard Izotov) in traditional Russian style, embroidered with precious stones and decorated with fur, and Ataman’s robber costume (Anatoly Kubatsky) with a gold applique will be presented. Particularly noteworthy is the Tsar’s costume (Mikhail Pugovkin) in the form of a long zipoon with a bright applique and a cape on the fur, and Vasya’s caftan (Alexei Katyshev), embroidered with pearls, from the film “Fire, Water and… Copper Tubes”.
Various accessories will also be presented at the exhibition, including the crown of Tsar Yeremey, the handbag of the adviser to Vodiany, the boots of Vodokrut, the gloves of Kvak the Villain and many others. For a more complete impression, the exposition is supplemented by the corresponding frames from films and posters to them.
The exhibition is timed to the year of Russian cinema and gives children and their parents the opportunity to learn a lot of interesting things about films of the last century and remember the films of their childhood. And this is a fabulous gift.
