On April 16, 1945, one of the largest battles of the Great Patriotic War began - the Berlin Offensive Operation, in which the 1st Belorussian Front (commanded by Marshal G.K. Zhukov), the 1st Ukrainian Front (commanded by Marshal I.S.Konev) and the 2nd Belorussian Front (commanded by Marshal K.K.Rokossovsky). During the general battle for Berlin, the German command was forced to admit defeat and on May 2, the German troops defending the city surrendered to the Red Army. On May 7, in Reims, representatives of the allied forces signed an act of unconditional surrender of Germany. At the request of Joseph Stalin, a second act was signed on the night of May 8-9 in the Berlin suburb of Karlshorst. Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov was the representative of the Soviet Union.

During the Berlin offensive, one of the key roles was played by the troops of the 1st Belorussian Front under the command of Marshal Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov.

The viewer is presented with a series of graphic sheets dedicated to the final battle of the Great Patriotic War, made by the Soviet graphic artist Vladimir Valerianovich Bogatkin. The author was a direct participant in hostilities and during the war worked as a front-line artist. He created a wide gallery of portraits of Soviet soldiers and officers, and on the basis of nature sketches - numerous compositions dedicated to important episodes of the period 1941-1945. A special place is occupied by lithographs telling about the Berlin operation, on which Vladimir Bogatkin worked in the years after the end of the war. These works instantly captivate with their power of drawing, sincerity and attention to detail.
