The exhibition is an overview of creative milestones, the variety of storylines and thematic searches.
The exposition includes works of different years. The work of Sergei Menshikov is so diverse that it can hardly be called only a painter. A variety of genres of fine art in the artist’s work speaks of the universality of the author.
Monumental painting. The exhibition presents sketches and photographs of murals of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Khanty-Mansiysk. On the artist’s account there is also a painting of the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Tatarsk (NSO), a painting of the chapel in the rest house “Bethlehem” in the village of Mochishche (NSO).
Easel painting. The author considers painting his main occupation. He perceives his existence in painting as an opportunity for endless learning: “When I paint a picture, I don’t count on the audience’s reaction, positive or negative. This process is more likely to create an adequate environment around itself. ”
City landscapes, nature, still lifes, plot works, open-air sketches - S. Menshikov has a special approach to any genre. The style found by the artist has been honed for years. The painting is subtle, delicate, light, but textured, static, but energetic, forcing any viewer to plunge into the world of the picture and join the place, action and time. And the time in his paintings is felt somehow in a special way - it is unhurried, poetic.
Graphics, book graphics. Etchings, abstract compositions, sketches and sketches of people, interior sketches - at this exhibition the artist is ready to share all the facets of his talent.
His work related to book graphics is diverse. The artist illustrated Russian folk tales, tales of foreign authors, children’s scientific and educational literature, as well as fiction of Soviet and foreign authors. Some of the created works were printed by various book publishers, while some of the works suffered the fate of "work on the table." The original illustrations presented at the exhibition are made in a variety of styles. The author considers the search for style one of the most important tasks when working on book graphics. Sophisticated techniques for working with watercolors, ink and original compositions reflect the author’s high professionalism and sincere dedication to the process.
The work of Sergei Menshikov is very recognizable. Someone likes to make it clear, someone prefers a complex aesthetic approach, but Sergey Menshikov falls into the mood of both of them. And so he is so loved by a variety of people.
For visitors, the exhibition will run from December 3, 2017 to January 12, 2018 daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., without days off.
