The exhibition presents seven portraits of members of the family of Nicholas II and three-dimensional objects made by the Greek sculptor Nikos Floros. This exhibition is an artistic gesture of the author, a tribute to the family of the last Russian emperor.
The sculptural portraits of Nicholas II, Empress Alexandra Fedorovna, Tsarevich Alexei and the Grand Duchesses Olga, Tatyana, Maria and Anastasia, as well as a portrait of Catherine II, were created manually from aluminum in the style of surrealistic pop art. They open a new period in the work of an artist working in his own technique, patented in 2003.
The choice of material is not accidental: Floros considers aluminum the main metal of our time; there was a Bronze Age in history, there was an Iron Age, and now - "aluminum". Authors Nikos Floros has no analogues in the world. He painstakingly collects his every work for several months, using aluminum cans as a material. To create one painting or sculpture, two to four thousand cans are required. The artist cuts the jar into small scales - each has its own shade and works like a brush stroke on a canvas: no additional coloring, only original colors and shades.
The works of the Greek sculptor are stored in many private collections in different countries of the world.
The exhibition completes the program of official events of the “cross” year of culture of Russia and Greece.
