From February 18 to May 8, the Gallery of Classical Photography will host a personal exhibition of Samat Gilmetdinov "Russian North: Four Seasons".
A distinctive feature of the project is that all the work was done by direct analog printing from slide films, without digital image processing. In Russia, such a project will be implemented for the first time.
The exhibition presents more than fifty photographic canvases that were made by the author during expeditions to the White Sea for ten years. The shooting took place on Cape Kartesh, the Bear Peninsula, the uninhabited islands of Cheremshikha and Sonostrov, Cape Turiy Rog, the Umba River, on the Kola Peninsula. Photos were taken with large format cameras on 13x18 cm film without the use of color enhancing filters. Each of them is an independent work of art, during the creation of which brushes and paints were replaced by technical tools of art - manual printing from slide films on Sibahrom materials.
“I try to show the beauty and harmony in color images, in the slightest nuances of light, in its refractions, reflections, fading. The graphics and the form of objects for me are only a general, orderly scheme of composition, then coloristic variations become the main thing in the plot. I try to express the “painting” of nature in the manner of the Impressionists, where color combinations, a light-air environment, and light abstraction become accents, ”says Samat Gilmetdinov.
Work in the Sibahrom laboratory takes up to 70% of the time from the author. Today’s rare technology was developed in the early 60s of the last century and was used to print NASA space photographs. Not a single printed material for 180 years of the existence of photography can be compared with the quality of image transmission on prints made using this technique. It allows you to get close to absolute white color and anthracite black. The saturation and contrast of the color palette of images is closest to natural colors. The shelf life of prints, their resistance to sunlight, according to experts, exceeds the properties of other modern materials by many times.
By depicting the beauty and originality of the Russian North in his photographs, the photographer wants to urge people to protect and preserve the pristine wildlife of the White Sea, to leave to the descendants these charming views, flora and fauna as they were thousands of years ago.
The opening of the exhibition will be held February 18 at 20 hours.
Opening hours from 12:00 to 21:00.
