August 30 at 16.00 in the main building of the Irkutsk Art Museum (Lenin St., 5) opens the exhibition "Russian Still Life: Evolution of the Genre." The exposition from the museum’s collection and artists ’workshops aims to trace the life of things in works of art from different eras, from ancient Russia to modern times. The museum for the first time offers to consider a still life on such a broad conceptual and temporal scale.
The exposition answers many questions of the evolution of the still-life genre. Funds of the Irkutsk Art Museum. V.P. Sukachev is allowed to show the works of icon painting, in particular the image of the sacrificial cup during the secret prayer of the three apostles - the Holy Trinity, and thereby emphasize the peculiarity of the Russian still-life genre. From the first steps of its development, the Russian still life carries vital and sacred, which means vital and spiritual meanings for man. A rich pictorial and graphic collection of a still life of Russian artists from the middle of the XIX century. and through the whole twentieth century it introduces the viewer into the world of objects and things and shows how united the world of things and the world of art are. And the inclusion of ceramics and porcelain, as well as objects of contemporary art (from artists’ workshops) in the exposition, shows how great the creator’s responsibility is to the image of the real world and how important the response of the viewer is. The exposition is accompanied by detailed annotations that allow us to trace the development of still life as one of the main genres of fine art.
