Exhibition of the Russian-Canadian photographer Nikita Stupin “Open City” in the FotoLoft Gallery Automatic translate
FOTOLOFT Gallery of Photo Art and ARTCONSUL invite you to the opening of the Open City exhibition of the Russian-Canadian photographer Nikita Stupin.
A special black and white world awaits you, where the line between reality and photography has been erased.
Spectators are presented with iconic works from the new cycle “Open City”. Each frame is made in the recognizable style of Straight Photography (“Honest Photography”), where the preliminary setting of the frame and subsequent retouching are completely excluded.
The composition of the picture captivating the eye is achieved solely due to the master’s possession of the unique technique of the “decisive moment”, the term once introduced by the maestro of photography, the great Henri Cartier - Bresson.
The city and its emotions are the main characters of Nikita Stupin’s creative work: wide-open doors and curtained windows, busy squares and deserted night parking lots, luxurious cars and a crumpled plastic cup… But you and I, in the focus of his lens, are just sets that replace each other friend at breakneck speed. The true personality of the city, free and sincere, looks at us from every photograph of the Open City series.
Nikita Stupin is a Russian-Canadian photographer. Founder of the creative photo studio "Moustaches & Glasses" ("Mustache & Glasses"). Member of the Russian Union Photo, lecturer at the Faculty of Photography at the Institute for Humanitarian Education (Moscow), author of publications on the subject of street photography and the Straight photography phenomenon, as well as his own authorial technique of contactless shooting. His recognizable and subtle style has won the hearts of his fans largely thanks to the insight of the author, honed by special education in the field of psychiatry and the science of human behavior.
Inspired by 90s grunge and house culture, contemporary art and the atmosphere of the city, the Moscow group Void City Club has prepared a special project for the opening of Nikita Stupin’s exhibition “Open City”. The musicians will present a bewitching collage of their own compositions and natural sounds of the urban environment in the genre of postmodernist composer John Cage.
