From September 6 to October 28, the Museum of Moscow will host the exhibition “Romantics. Searchers. Heroes ”, dedicated to the Year of the Volunteer (Volunteer) in the Russian Federation. It is dedicated to the youth of the 20th century and will touch upon a significant date in the history of Russian youth organizations - in October marks the 100th anniversary of the creation of the All-Union Leninist Communist Youth Union (Komsomol). The exhibition was prepared jointly by the Museum of Moscow, the Main Archival Directorate of the city of Moscow and the Integration Cultural Center.
Exhibition “Romantics. Searchers. Heroes ”invites you to learn and reflect on the history, achievements and modern heritage of the Komsomol and the contribution of its participants to the development of Moscow and our country as a whole. The exposition is built on the principle of chronology - from the creation of the organization in 1918 to the dissolution in 1991 - and is divided into six large-scale parts. The symbols of these sections were six orders, which the organization was awarded during its existence. Each order is a symbol of a stage in the history of the country, its key theme and main tasks, in the fulfillment of which Komsomol volunteers played a crucial role. Each section carries the image of an era and talks about people who became participants in the events.
In the exhibition space, multimedia and interactive installations coexist with archival materials and personal belongings. Thanks to them, different generations of young people of the 20th century will appear before the audience: those who fought against illiteracy, fought in the Great Patriotic War, built the Moscow metro, BAM and Luzhniki, mastered the virgin lands… A significant part of the historical materials are personal archives of Komsomol members from different years transferred to the museum for Exhibitions. In the future, materials will replenish the funds of the Museum of Moscow.
Director of the Moscow Museum Alina Saprykina: “The exhibition does not set the task of assessing the activities of the Komsomol. Our goal is to look at the recent history of our country through the prism of today and once again realize that much of what surrounds us has arisen thanks to the Komsomol members, their seething energy of youth and the desire to make life better. In Moscow, the streets retained the names of Komsomol members in their names, but we do not always know their stories and fate. ”
