The Russian Academy of Arts presents an exhibition of works by the People’s Artist of Russia, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts Viktor Panteleevich Psarev "The Artist and Time". The retrospective exhibition will include over a hundred paintings and graphic works created by the author in the period from 1985 to 2021.
The work of the master, imbued with true love for the Fatherland and patriotism, inspires hope that the connection between generations will not be interrupted. These are the goals set by the masters of the studio named after N. B. Grekov, whose artist since 1980 is V.P. Psarev.
Victor Panteleevich Psarev was born in 1950 in the city of Leninogorsk. After moving with his parents to Ust-Kamenogorsk, he began to attend classes at the art studio of the Palace of Pioneers. There, his first teacher in drawing and painting was E.N. Godowsky, from whom the future artist learned not only the basics of art, but also a special, inquisitive outlook on life. After graduating from an art school in Alma-Ata and serving in the army, in 1974 the aspiring painter entered the Moscow Art Institute named after V.I.Surikov, where he studied at the workshop of the People’s Artist of the USSR, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Tair Salakhov. Under the leadership of Salakhov, the young master held his first exhibition at the Russian Academy of Arts. In total, Psarev had more than four hundred of them.
V.P. Psarev has a wide creative range. The artist is interested in historical and military events, stories about the life and work of his contemporaries, as well as moral, religious, philosophical and biblical themes. Among the most famous works: diorama "Central crossing over the Volga" in the Museum-panorama "Battle of Stalingrad" in Volgograd, "Evening" (1977), "Portrait of a young soldier" (1981), "Memory. May 9 "(1978-1985), triptych" Heart Wounds "(1989)," For the Russian Land "(1991)," Motherhood "(1994)," The Artist and Time "(2004) and a lot others. The theme of Memory was and remains the main one in the artist’s work.
While still at the institute, Viktor Panteleevich conceived a series of works on the theme "Memory" (1988-2012), for which in 1997 he was awarded a diploma of the Russian Academy of Arts. He was inspired by a plot that is close to everyone living in Russia - memories of the war. Once the artist read that the young guys planted a whole garden, naming each tree in honor of the deceased soldier of the Great Patriotic War. This is how the painting was born, called "The Garden of Memory", in which the boy carefully examines the portraits of soldiers who died in the war. The canvas "Dialogue" - part of the triptych "Wounds of the Heart" - was dedicated by the artist to contemporary Russian youth. On the one hand, the painting depicts representatives of the so-called informals, on the other, the soldiers of the past war, as well as the recent - Afghan or Chechen - conflict. This striking contrast gives rise to the question in the soul of the viewer,Are the departed warriors a heroic example for our youth?
An important stage in the work of Viktor Psarev was the work on the reconstruction of the picturesque decoration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow. Impressions from the restoration of the temple formed the basis of the painting "Patriarchs of Moscow and All Russia", which continued the theme of Memory.
The artist’s portrait gallery demonstrates images of Vladimir Vysotsky, Andrei Tarkovsky, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Joseph Brodsky and Vasily Shukshin from the Sons of Russia series (1988-2017), as well as a number of images of the artist’s friends and relatives, which will be presented in the exhibition.
The viewer’s attention will undoubtedly be attracted by the master’s landscapes, made during his numerous travels - the nature of his native land, its primordial nature in the works "Steppe", "Cherry", "Last ray", full of sun series "Italy", "Santorini" "and others.
The artistic world of Viktor Psarev is permeated with the idea of the relativity of time. The author’s characteristic sense of the unity of history, historical and human destinies is embodied in the character of the figurative space of his works, pictorial interpretation, compositional techniques that create the richest associations. The artist is deeply concerned about the fate of generations that have survived the cataclysms of Russian history at the beginning of the 20th century. Raising many important issues, addressing the essential layers of Russian history, the exhibition will become a serious cause for thought.
