In the exhibition halls of the Russian Academy of Arts (Prechistenka, 21), an exhibition of paintings by the corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Arts, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Raisa Ivanovna Lebedeva will take place. Most of the works presented in the exhibition were created by the artist over the past 20 years and performed in her favorite genres - landscape and still life.
Raisa Lebedeva is a loyal follower and worthy successor of the traditions of the Moscow school of painting, her art has a special passion, without pathos and narcissism, figurative attractiveness and psychological depth of ambiguous attitude to the world, sincere self-knowledge and self-expression.
Raisa Ivanovna was born in 1940 in Moscow. She graduated from the Art College. K.A. Savitsky in Penza, and then the workshop of theatrical and decorative painting of the Moscow State Art Institute. IN AND. Surikova, where her teachers were M.M. Kurilko-Ryumin and V.B. Skuridin.
From 1974 to 1977 she worked in the Penza Drama Theater as a production designer, in the same years she taught painting at the PHU im. K. A. Savitsky. Since 1977 and to this day has been teaching at the Moscow Art Theater named after V.I. Surikova, in the workshop of theatrical decoration painting. She was awarded medals, prizes and diplomas of the Russian Academy of Arts and the Moscow Union of Artists. He is the author of theoretical works and publications in magazines on art. The works of Raisa Lebedeva are kept in private collections in Russia, Canada, Germany, France, England, Portugal. Being a theater artist by education, she worked a lot and fruitfully as a stage designer and author of costumes for theatrical productions, which she put on the works of domestic and foreign playwrights. And yet, with the greatest completeness, her natural gift was revealed in easel painting.
Since her student days, Russian cezannists, artists of the Jack of Diamonds society, especially artists such as Pyotr Petrovich Konchalovsky and Ilya Ivanovich Mashkov, have become her idols in art. They served as the personification of a high professional culture; Rais Lebedev was attracted by their inner strength, the emotional energy of color and plastic forms, but she never blindly repeated or imitated the artistic discoveries of her great predecessors. With all this, Lebedeva considers himself a consistent adherent and successor of the traditions of the Moscow school of painting, which is directly associated with the brilliant representatives of the Jack of Diamonds and their worthy followers.
The artist is bold enough and, at the same time, tactfully transforms the formal pictorial and plastic ideas and figurative dramaturgy of his idols, introducing his own intonations and emotional accents, his vision of the world around him. In her landscape paintings and still lifes there is not a concentrated, pre-thought out concept, but the will of the soul, self-manifestation of a sincere sensation and empathy of the pictorial motive, understanding of its intrinsic value in concrete time and real situations. Here the amazing, unique wealth of her worldview was embodied. The emotional-figurative meaning of her works, their musical, poetic sound, depend on how the paint is laid, on the direction and movement of the smear, on the amplitude of coloristic relations, color vibrations in the compositional structure. With all the variety of motives and expressive means, the art of Raisa Lebedeva has a rare inner integrity, in tune with her nature, personality. This is evidenced by both landscapes and still-life productions of the artist.
The works of Raisa Ivanovna Lebedeva are not a graceful glide on the surface of the canvas, but a complex, stubborn desire and pleasure to create. She has her own inner world, her spiritual and aesthetic ideals, moral principles, as, first of all, her painting testifies to. Lebedeva’s palette consists not only of basic and additional colors, which would be too simple for her - she incorporates an endless range of emotional and semantic shades, dramatic and lyrical nuances. She has a natural gift and acquired ability to feel the expressive features and properties of the painting material, its distinctive qualities and capabilities. She is not subject to the temptations of momentary fashion, consistent in her artistic quest. She generously shares her acquired knowledge, skill, professional culture with her students, students of the Surikov Institute, where she has been teaching for many years.
