Nikitin).
In his work N. Davydov continues the best traditions of the Russian academic school of painting. The artist’s works reflected the results of his creative trips to the regions of the Far North, the Urals and the Far East. Since that time, N. Davydov has grown attached to the poor northern nature. He is a chronicler of his time. Gradually, the appearance of the villages changes, and with it the Russian North, the old way of life, the habitual way of life, disappears into the past. N. Davydov managed to keep on the canvases for the descendants the beauty of these places. His work, which depicts fishing settlements with rustic chopped houses, chapels, still lifes with objects of peasant life, eloquently testify to this. At the same time, Davydov pays much attention to the organization of the popularization of Tver art in various regions of Russia and foreign countries - Bulgaria, China, Germany, Macedonia, etc.
N. Davydov was born in the village of Olshanka in the Odessa region in 1951. Fate took care that in school days, Nicholas, a descendant of a family of hereditary artists, had the opportunity to hold in his hands the originals of the brush of great masters - his grandfather VV Meshkov, an active member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, the USSR State Prize laureate, and K A. Korovin, S. A. Vinogradov, V. N. Baksheev, S. V. Gerasimov. Probably, this circumstance determined his life path. In 1973 he graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Art College. VI Surikov, and in 1978 - the Faculty of Painting of the Far Eastern Pedagogical Institute of Arts. Since 1976 - participant of many Russian and foreign exhibitions. Since 1989 - a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
From the very beginning of his creative activity, N. Davydov’s works, thanks to his natural gift and rare diligence, were distinguished by an enviable independence and extraordinary maturity. An important factor in the formation of N. Davydov as an artist was the fact that he lived in Tver for about 40 years, he devoted much energy and energy to the artistic and social life of the House of Creativity «Academic Dacha», where artists always honored the creative heritage of the great masters of the past.
With immediate authenticity on his canvases there is the silence of a sleepy lake, the freshness of snow in the January cold, the transparency of the spring forest, the heaviness of rain clouds. The artist’s works, glorifying the beauty of the surrounding world, are marked by a sense of ownership and responsibility for the fragile state of nature. Davydov is known for his landscapes series «On the Tver land», architectural landscapes «Temples of the Russian Land», «Monasteries of Russia».
For N. Davydov has long become a natural need to visit holy places, fanned by the power and strength of the spirit of the Russian people, to capture on their canvases even a small fraction of the beauties of the Novgorod land. In 2006, he first visited the island of Valaam, and then repeatedly visited it for the last 5 years, observing the spiritual formation and revival of the main temple of the Valaam Monastery, started more than 20 years ago.
In 2014 and 2016 years. At the invitation of the Andrew the First-Called Foundation, as well as the Holy Panteleimon Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church, his creative trips to Athos took place, during which N. Davydov was given the opportunity to visit the most remote monasteries, cloisters and touch the centuries-old feat of people, monks living in hermitage. During his stay in the Holy Land, the artist worked a lot and enthusiastically, creating a series of paintings, among them: «Kareia. Capital of Athos «,» The Skete of the Virgin «,» Skit Xylurgu «, etc.
