Nikitin).
In his work N. Davydov continues the best traditions of the Russian academic school of painting. The artist’s works reflected the results of his creative trips to the regions of the Far North, the Urals, and the Far East. Since then, N. Davydov has stuck with his soul to the poor northern nature. He is a chronicler of his era. The appearance of the villages is gradually changing, and with it the Russian north, the old way of life, the usual way of life, is becoming a thing of the past. N. Davydov managed to preserve the beauty of these places for his descendants. His work, which depicts fishing villages with rustic chopped houses, chapels, still lifes with objects of peasant life, eloquently testifies to this. At the same time, N. Davydov pays much attention to organizing activities to popularize Tver art in various regions of Russia and foreign countries - Bulgaria, China, Germany, Macedonia, etc.
N. Davydov was born in the village of Olshanka, Odessa region in 1951. Fate made sure that even in his school years, Nikolai, who came from a family of hereditary artists, had the opportunity to hold the originals of the brushes of great masters - his grandfather V.V. Meshkov, a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts, laureate of the USSR State Prize, and also K A. Korovin, S. A. Vinogradov, V. N. Baksheev, S. V. Gerasimov. Probably, this circumstance determined his life path. In 1973, he graduated from the Krasnoyarsk Art College. V.I. Surikova, and in 1978 - the faculty of painting of the Far Eastern Pedagogical Institute of Arts. Since 1976 - a participant in many Russian and foreign exhibitions. Since 1989 - member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.
From the very beginning of his creative activity, the works of N. Davydov, thanks to his natural gift and rare industriousness, were distinguished by an enviable independence and extraordinary maturity. An important factor in the formation of N. Davydov as an artist was the fact that, having lived in Tver for about 40 years, he devoted a lot of energy and energy to the artistic and social life of the Academic Dacha House of Creativity, where artists always honored the creative heritage of the great masters of the past.
With immediate authenticity on his canvases appears the silence of a sleepy lake, the freshness of snow in the January cold, the transparency of the spring forest, the severity of rain clouds. The artist’s works glorifying the beauty of the world are marked by a sense of ownership and responsibility for the fragile state of nature. Davydov is known for a series of landscapes "On the Tver Land", architectural landscapes "Temples of the Russian Land", "Monasteries of Russia".
It has long been a natural need for N. Davydov to visit the holy places fanned by the power and fortitude of the Russian people in order to capture at least a small fraction of the beauties of Novgorod land on their canvases. In 2006, he first visited the island of Valaam, and then repeatedly came there over the past 5 years, observing the spiritual formation and revival of the main temple of the Valaam Monastery, begun more than 20 years ago.
In 2014 and 2016 At the invitation of the foundation of St. Andrew the First-Called, as well as the St. Panteleimon Monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church, his creative trips to Mount Athos took place, during which N. Davydov was given the opportunity to visit the most remote monasteries, monasteries and touch the centuries-old feat of people, monks living a hermit life. During his stay in the Holy Land, the artist worked hard and enthusiastically, creating a series of paintings, including: “Kareya. The capital of Mount Athos ”,“ The Skete of the Virgin ”,“ The Skit of Xylurgu ”, etc.
