The exhibition will be held from April 14 to May 10, 2015.
The exposition included over 50 paintings of different years.
Evening at the Piazza del Campo. 1981.
The artist was born in 1949 in Leningrad in the family of a famous painter, master of the lyrical landscape P.T. Fomin. In 1973 he graduated from the St. Petersburg Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. I.E. Repin, a workshop of monumental painting under the guidance of Acad. A.A. Mylnikova. He is currently a professor at this institute. Since 1972, he has participated in over 200 art exhibitions in Russia and other countries. Together with artists S. Repin, V. Sukhov, I. Uralov, he is the author of mosaics and murals for public buildings and structures of his native city, other cities of Russia and abroad, such as a monument to the heroic defenders of Leningrad, the memorial to the “Fallen Soldiers” in Zelenogorsk, Russian National Library, metro stations, hotels, etc. Participated in the reconstruction of murals of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow and a number of churches in St. Petersburg.
Inner monumentality is also noted for the easel work of Nikita Fomin. They have a clear architectonics, accurate use of color, an active emotional beginning.
Being in constant search, Nikita Fomin seeks to express her special perception of the reality surrounding us. Wherever an artist creates his works - in St. Petersburg, Paris, Pskov, Venice or Rome, he remains a Petersburg artist in the sense of the word, which embodies high professional skill and in-depth understanding of the picturesque culture of his predecessors.
The ability to combine the achievements of various art schools in their searches and at the same time preserve the modern attitude and individuality is one of the main properties of N. Fomin’s painting.
Nikita Fomin creates landscape paintings. Based on field impressions, he boldly composes what he saw in nature, introduces an open sonorous color.
In N. Fomin’s paintings, the urban environment turns into a kind of decoration for expressing in color and form his nostalgic love for old architecture. This is especially felt in the landscapes on the theme of the hometown of St. Petersburg. Their theatricality manifests itself in the way with which the artist seeks to bring to the forefront the most interesting objects, buildings or events from his point of view. In some landscapes, a complex combination of a clear silhouette pattern and at the same time an exciting, picturesque “fluctuation” of forms is visible.
The rural landscapes of the artist, which he paints on Pskov land, in particular, in the small village of Mali near Izborsk, are distinguished by sincerity, simplicity, and special lyricism. Unlike urban views, the artist refuses sharply defined contours, achieving a special melodic sound.
The amazing nature of this region, strict and majestic, is an inexhaustible source of plastic motifs. The monotonous rhythms of city streets are replaced by smooth, flowing lines of hills, unhurried rivers, and clouds. Especially the artist is attracted by the transitional states of nature (“April Haze”, “Spring Evening”, “Early Spring”, “Beginning of Winter”, “Evening in August”). In a number of works, the master captured monuments of ancient Russian architecture as a remembrance of past greatness, power and proud impregnability.
The exposition includes works created as a result of travels in Italy, France, Germany and other countries (“Café on Montmartre”, “Evening in Rome”, “Evening on Piazza del Campo”). Cities in the paintings of N. Fomin live their own special lives, the artist perceives them as living characters, with their mood, character, fate.

The genre of still life is no less interesting for the artist. If landscape works of N. Fomin arise as a reflection of his perception of the world around him, then a still life is that artistic “kitchen” where he freely experiments, transforming the plastic form, comprehending the internal laws of painting.
