October 6, 2016 at 18.00 in the halls of the Museum and Exhibition Complex of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli Art Gallery (19 Prechistenka) will open the exhibition of the works of the Latvian artist Elina Dzelme “EGOMORPHOSIS” (Portrait).
The name of Elina Dzelme as a painter became known five years ago, when he had considerable experience working on the stage. For this short period, she has already passed four exhibitions.
E. Dzelme was born in Riga (Latvia) in 1986. She graduated from the Riga Central School of Crafts and Arts, the Latvian Academy of Art, where she specialized in painting and composition, the Riga School of Culture, specializing in the science of art. Has a bachelor’s degree in art from the Latvian Academy of Culture. The creative activity of the Latvian artist found expression in painting, cinema and performances.
The paintings of E. Dzelme are mainly devoted to the Woman, her significance and role in modern society, loneliness and difficulties that she has to face. In the image of these realities there is an ironic smile, and a bit of self-satisfied joy from one’s own pain and discontent, and an irresistible desire to put oneself on a pedestal.
The inner world of a woman is presented from different points of view, which cover a wide range from fiction and abstraction to a metaphorical interpretation of the plot. These works are often characterized by a sense of fragility and farewell, which creates a situation of mortality. They reflect an honest and very personal interpretation of the artist’s struggle. Women in her works live, suffer, dance in a vague empty space, in their own universe. In these works, the artist resorts to form deformation in order to find an adequate expression of feelings of tenderness, hatred, anger and love, although she knows how to write “correctly”.
E. Dzelme rejects everything that he finds boring, including “being right”. Her motto is not to follow accepted standards, but to find her own place in this disturbing and alluring stylized world.
Her first exhibition, FEST ANTIFRIGIA, is a celebration against infertility, for procreation, for dreams in a cold and indifferent world. The topic of nudity and sexuality, previously forbidden due to the strict and religious education of E. Dzelme, became for her one of the main ways of self-expression.
Solo exhibitions of E. Dzelme were held not only in Riga, but also in the capitals of a number of foreign countries - Kiev, Monaco, Vienna, etc.
The exhibition runs on October 23rd.
