Igor Novikov is a vivid representative of modern Russian sculpture, who is actively and fruitfully working both in monumental and easel sculpture. The monumental creations of the master adorn the squares, streets and parks of the cities of Russia, the Baltic states, and Central Asia.
Igor Nikolaevich Novikov was born in 1951 in Moscow. Graduated from Moscow State Art Institute. V.I. Surikov, where he received fundamental training from the largest sculptors Nikolai Tomsky and Mikhail Baburin.
Novikov is an artist of a wide professional range. The world of his sculptural images is distinguished by the polyphonic harmony of plastic forms, a variety of compositional solutions and artistic styles. The artist owns a rich arsenal of classical and modern plastic, confidently feeling in various sculptural genres and materials. Portraits, memorial signs, sketches of monuments, historical, genre and animalistic compositions reveal the sculptor’s bright creative personality.
Creative activity I.N. Novikova began in the mid 70-ies of the last century. Shortly after graduation, the young sculptor began to create talented memorable works, to participate in the most significant sculpture exhibitions - All-Russian, All-Union, International and is awarded numerous diplomas of exhibitions. And also actively participates in creative sculptural symposia.
Among the most significant monumental works of I.N. Novikov - monuments to Alexander Nevsky in Vladimir (2003), the fallen FSB officers in Nizhny Novgorod together with the sculptor I. Chernoglazov (2009), the poet Rasul Gamzatov in Moscow together with the sculptor S. Kanaygadzhiev (2013). and etc.
I.N. Novikov contributes to the formation of the urban historical artistic environment by creating memorial plaques to prominent public figures, writers, scientists, poets, and military leaders. Among them, the commemorative sign of A.S. Pushkin on the building of Moscow State University on Mokhovaya, memorial plaques to the Minister of Communications of the USSR N.D. Psurtsev, mathematician N.N. Bogolyubov (2010), Kim Philby (2010), N.V. Turbina (2013), A.B. Chakovsky (2012), People’s Artists of the USSR M.I. Prudkin, O.N. Efremov, F.I. Tyutchev in Munich.
An important place in the work of I. Novikov is the portrait genre. In his portraits, the sculptor not only achieves maximum resemblance to the external appearance of the model, but also saturates the image with psychologism, internal expression, subtle poetry and lyricism, revealing the versatility of human nature, its spiritual essence.
Bright multi-faceted and extraordinary talent I.N. Novikov allows him to turn to different sculptural genres, creating works inspired, deep, emotional, whether monumental or easel. The analyticity, love of metaphor, the ability to generalize artfully and the originality of style that are characteristic of Igor Novikov’s work invariably arouse persistent audience interest.
The universality of talent and creative interests, the highest skill brought I.N. Novikov deserved recognition in Russia. His works are in collections of the country’s largest museums, such as the State Tretyakov Gallery and the Museum of Modern Art in Sofia (Bulgaria), as well as in private collections in Russia, Germany, the USA, Poland, and the Czech Republic. I.N. Novikov was awarded diplomas of the Russian Academy of Arts (1998 and 2001), is a laureate of the SVR Prize (Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation), 2011. for creating the board to scout Kim Philby. In 2013, he was awarded a diploma of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
