V. Galatenko is an original and interesting master, whose work in a peculiar way combines tradition and experimentation, reality and fiction. The exposition was made up of graphic sheets, paintings, book illustrations made in different years and revealing all the facets of the artist’s work.
“By his worldview, Vladimir Galatenko is a typical romantic,” say art critics, “inclined not so much to fix various states of nature as to transform and generalize them in his own lyrical experiences. His paintings can be called “visions”. This is a kind of picturesque idealism, immersing us in the flowing colors and forms, smoothly and almost imperceptibly, into the light and tonal environment, where not so much specific objects and tangible bodies live, but their shadows. ”

Vladimir Galatenko was born in 1949 in the Astrakhan region. In 1983 he graduated from the Faculty of Applied Arts of the Moscow Textile Institute. From childhood, the artist was attracted to distant lands, unusual landscapes, so his creative biography began with a landscape. He traveled a lot with the watercolorists of the Union of Artists. The result of these trips were extensive landscape series: Baikal, Sakhalin, Siberia, Karelia, Georgia, Moscow Region. And in the future, the landscape will remain one of the most beloved by the author of the genres, gaining a deeper figurative fullness, similar to that characteristic of the picturesque landscapes presented at the exhibition of the 2000s. V. Galatenko writes from nature, but remains her free interpreter. His works are characterized by a “reduced palette”, muffled coloring, restrained color system with a mass of valers.

The diptych “In memory of my mother. 1942 ”- an artistic embodiment of dramatic episodes from the life of the person most dear to the author. Skillful generalization of the form, playing with color masses gives the works of V. Galatenko an almost monumental sound.
A significant part of the exhibition was a series of works dedicated to A.P. Chekhov. Melikhovsky landscapes, manor interiors, painted with special penetration and attention, convey a sense of ownership in the unique world of this amazing person, writer, artist.

Already in the earliest works, in a single pictorial environment of which the artist conveys the interaction of natural elements, Galatenko’s path to more decorative and almost abstract things is traced, where the mobility of lines, light spots and colors reaches the limit. Galatenko’s works inhabit the images of “Eternal Femininity”, amazing colors - some entities of a distant and mysterious world inherent in the artist’s imagination or just hidden under the cover of everyday life.
In his best things, Vladimir Galatenko remains a poet of color and light, a romantic of a decorative warehouse, immersing us in any dreams and mirages of free creative imagination.
The exhibition runs until June 14, 2015.
