The project “To Remember…”, which has existed since 2014, is dedicated to the memory of Irkutsk artists of different generations who left a bright and significant mark in the fine arts of Siberia and Russia. The works of authors who have already passed away and whose anniversary dates fall on the year of the exhibition are selected for exhibiting.
In 2016, the exhibition will open on July 28 at the Gallery of Siberian Art. According to Tamara Dranitsa, senior researcher at the Irkutsk Art Museum, the public will see psychologically reliable portraits and lyrical-epic Siberian landscapes that conquer life with truthfulness and high mastery of performance. The unique images of contemporaries and Siberian nature are imbued with a special life-affirming pathos, characteristic of talented representatives of the “Siberian style”.
Of the ten authors represented in the exposition (three of which are graphics), a group of painters of the "Severe Romantics" stands out - an artistic phenomenon that arose in Russian-Soviet art of the 60-70s of the last century. “G.V. Bogdanov created the severely romantic images of Soviet people, courageous and purposeful builders of the new Siberia,” Tamara Dranitsa notes, “the majestic landscapes untouched by civilization were painted by K. N. Kits-Kovyazin; the new industrial appearance of Siberia was reflected in the monumental landscapes of A.I. Shatalov. For the modern viewer, the classical heritage of the “Irkutsk school” of fine art of the 20th century has important cognitive, educational and moral significance. ”
The exhibition will be located on two floors of the Siberian Art Gallery. In total there will be about 60 works, both from the collection of the Irkutsk Art Museum, and from the families of the authors. The opening will take place on July 28 at 15.00 at the address: Irkutsk, st. Karl Marx, 23. Entrance to the opening according to tradition is free. It is planned that the exhibition "To Remember…" will run until the end of August 2016.
