Overcoming centuries-old differences, the search for unifying ideas, a return to basics based on scientific achievements are the leading trends in modern Russia and the world.
In particular, this is manifested in the interpenetration of secular principles and religious motives in the everyday life of people against the background of a growing interest in Russian history. Orthodox holidays and traditions are its integral part, as well as native Russian crafts, art schools, family life. The exhibition “Orthodox traditions in the 21st century. The exhibition tells about their revival and new incarnation.” Vladimir Mikhailov ”at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts (Moscow).
Vladimir Mikhailov is a jeweler artist working in the ancient technique of depicting Orthodox images, which originated in Pskov and Novgorod of the XII-XIII centuries. By the power of his talent and painstaking manual labor, he managed to throw an elegant but durable bridge between the past and the future, to recreate the continuity of generations. The exhibition presents early author’s works of stone and bone, as well as products made of metal using the small plastic technique, dedicated to the Orthodox holidays - Easter, Christmas, Memorial Day of St. Peter and Fevronia (Day of love, family and fidelity) and sacraments - wedding, baptism.
Within the framework of the exhibition, lectures will be organized for museum visitors:
April 24 (Sunday), 16:00 - lecture by Andrei Borovsky (Moscow), folk costume researcher, ethnoculturologist, art critic, museologist, member of the International Association of Art Critics and Art Critics. Subject: "A traditional costume in the circle of life of a Russian person."
May 4 (Wednesday), 16:00 - lecture by Anna Nekrylova (St. Petersburg), candidate of art criticism, deputy director for research at the Russian Institute of Art History. Topic: “Orthodox Holidays: Easter in the Context of Traditional Folk Culture”.
Looking at the graceful works of Vladimir Mikhailov, you recall the words of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky that without a positive and beautiful thing, neither a person can go out of his childhood, nor start a new generation on the road. To start a new path, we have a starting point, an invaluable, revived experience of our ancestors, and a rich present in creativity, promising a multifaceted future. You can verify this from April 20 to May 5 at the All-Russian Museum of Decorative and Applied Arts (Moscow).
