On September 30, the Clyde Butcher exhibition “Wide Open Spaces” opens in the Gallery of Classic Photography on Savvinskaya Embankment. Visitors will be presented the works of a famous American landscape painter, many of which have not been exhibited in Russia before.
The name of Clyde Butcher is well known to art photography enthusiasts around the world. He was widely known for his photographs of American landscapes, made with a large-format camera and printed in large sizes (up to 2 × 5 m), allowing to convey as accurately as possible not only details and texture, but also the unique nature of a landscape.
The exhibition will feature more than 20 works of the classic. The exposition will be composed of landscapes of North America, taken from the mid-80s of the last century to the mid-2000s. All photographs are united by the thoroughness of execution - impeccable composition and manual optical printing from large format negatives. Images are incredibly realistic, sometimes it seems that you look out the window: the richness of the midtones and the amount of detail are so striking.
“This exhibition will allow, on the one hand, to appreciate the work of Clyde Butcher on a larger scale, on the other hand, to help in understanding the landscape as one of the key genres of photo art,” says Mark Cobert, art director of the Classical Gallery.
The exhibition will run from September 30 to November 6. The cost of a full ticket is 300 rubles.
