On December 16, an exhibition of handwritten books created by 32 artists from Russia and abroad will open at the Nikolai Ostrovsky Museum (Tverskaya, 14).
In total, the exhibition will feature 56 items made using hand-bindings and modern Cyrillic calligraphy.
Visitors will be able to touch unique books created not by writers, but by artists, take part in master classes and buy designer gifts at the Christmas fair.
The presented exhibits contain a unique combination of method and means of expression: the usual canvas has been replaced by a book for artists, calligraphy has become a special form of the author’s expression. Each book is an invitation to dive into the artist’s world. The spectrum of topics of concern to authors extends from travel notes and ironic conclusions to reflections on time or loneliness.
In addition to art books, guests of the exhibition are waiting for:
- Books on the plane: an exposition of canvases by calligraphers, made with letters.
- Interactive objects: for example, one of them, "Canned Food", is a collective work with a multitude of mini-books that you can get from a huge jar and spy on what thoughts this or that artist has "preserved" for himself.
- Workshops on calligraphy, hand bindings, filling and assembling art books, where you can try your hand at working with pen and ink, sign a New Year card or take with you a book made with your own hands.
- A fair where you can buy postcards, sketchbooks, New Year’s toys and other unusual handmade items
Ekaterina Antokolskaya, a cellist, artist of the State Academic Symphony Capella of Russia, soloist of the GAM-ensemble, laureate of international music festivals and a member of the International Union of Musical Figures, will perform at the opening of the exhibition. Compositions from the romantic repertoire of Catherine in her masterful performance will be performed.
The exhibition is organized by the State Museum - Cultural Center "Integration" named after Nikolai Ostrovsky and the art residence "Calligraphy Classes by Elena Alekseeva".
