Deserts, the author thinks as a space without a hero, a picture for him is the space through which the viewer must go. These are “non-places”, transit zones, past which people pass or temporarily stop, without attaching special importance to their surroundings. “Desert” is, finally, the name of one painting. Written in 2010, it was she who, according to the author, became a creative impulse for many of his subsequent works.

As the curator of the exhibition, Elina Mukhina, notes: “Pavel Otdelnov’s painting is really relevant: on the one hand, it works on the ordinary, familiar field, seen for the thousandth time by everyone. The post-Soviet dull urbanism of the city outskirts, the broken dream of the architect Corbusier. But intonation is important in the artist’s approach. Indeed, for most viewers, such a landscape is the "Homeland", the starting point of personal memories. And it is from this point of view, very accurately found by the artist, that everyday life can be elevated to truly epic heights. "

Pavel Otdelnov. Russian artist, known for works in the genre of industrial and urban landscape. Born in the city of Dzerzhinsk (Russia). In 1999 he graduated from an art school in Nizhny Novgorod, in 2005 - from the Moscow State Art Institute named after V.I. Surikov. In 2015 - Institute of Contemporary Art. Member of the Moscow Union of Artists. Since 1997, actively participates in Russian and foreign exhibitions.
