September 5 at 16.00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (Lenin St., 103) opens the exhibition "Father and Daughter." Eugene Lansere and Zinaida Serebryakova from the funds of the KIIA, dedicated to the 170th birthday of E.A. Lansere, an outstanding Russian sculptor of the second half of the XIX century.
Father and daughter are representatives of one of the most famous art families in Russia - Benoit - Lansere. With the family of Benois E.A. Lanceray is related by kinship: he was married to the daughter of N.L. Benoit - E.N. Benoit (1850 - 1933). The Lansere family gave Russia several artists at once - N.E. Lanceray (1879 - 1942), E.E. Lanceray (1875 - 1946), and Z.E. Serebryakov (1884 - 1967).
The museum displays an exhibition of two representatives of this family - E.A. Lansere (1848 - 1886), an outstanding Russian sculptor, and his daughter, artist, Z.E. Serebryakova (1884 - 1967). The exhibition includes their works from the museum’s collection: four sculptures by Yevgeny Lansere and paintings and drawings by his daughter, Russian artist Zinaida Serebryakova.
Evgeny Aleksandrovich Lansere was born in Morshansk on August 12 (24), 1848 in the family of a military engineer. He did not receive a systematic art education, he was engaged in modeling on his own, he visited the workshops of various sculptors, including N.I. Liberia. While still studying at the University of St. Petersburg at the Faculty of Law, E. Lansere began to submit his works at the Imperial Academy of Arts, which were highly appreciated. In 1874 he was recognized as an honorary free-lance member of the Academy of Arts. Since 1879 he was a member of the Moscow Society of Art Lovers.
Life and work of E.A. Lansere fell on the second half of the XIX century, the heyday of the domestic genre, not only in painting but also in sculpture. The main theme of his work was the genre-everyday theme, which he brilliantly embodied in the sculpture of small forms. He created more than 200 animalistic and genre sculptures and sculptural compositions depicting horses, riders, scenes from the life of different peoples, seen by him during private trips. Most of his works were cast in bronze, so he is considered the founder of Russian cabinet bronze.
E.A. Lansere is a master of the realistic direction in sculpture, his work is characterized by attention to details, careful study of texture. Realistically convincing interpretation of the plot is inherent in his works. The exhibition presents four sculptures from the museum’s collection: “Kirghiz with the Golden Eagle”, “Pilgrim”, “The Horseman”, and one of the masterpieces - “Farewell to the Cossack and the Cossack”.
Zinaida Serebryakova is one of the most talented Russian artists who went down in the history of Russian art of the XX century. In the collection of the museum, her work is represented by collections of paintings and graphic works created in France, where she lived since 1924. They were acquired by the museum from the daughter of the artist T. B. Serebryakova in 1973. In France, the artist created portraits, landscapes, still lifes, an extensive cycle of works devoted to the beauty of a naked body, numerous genre paintings and drawings that depict the life of ordinary people. Twice Z. E. Serebryakova visited Morocco. The famous Moroccan series was created here, several works of which were on display. In whatever genre she worked, no matter what plot she addressed, her works are characterized by emotionality, lyricism and a direct sense of life.
The exhibition will run from September 5 to October 7, 2018 (Lenin St., 103).
The museum is open from 10.00 to 18.00, on Saturday from 11.00 to 19.00. Monday is the day off.
