The Opvs modernvm group exhibition is the result of the interaction of the academic tradition with new formats, an art experiment initiated by the Moscow Academic Art College in memory of 1905 and the WINZAVOD Center for Contemporary Art.
Curators:
Mikhail Rozanov, Cyril Preobrazhensky.
Reviving the tradition of scholarship trips to Italy, which appeared in the Imperial Academy of Arts back in the 19th century, MAHU provided the opportunity for the best students and artists of the START project to go to Tuscany for summer practice. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Dante Alighieri were born here. For many centuries, this region has been a center of attraction for artists from around the world. It was here, armed with cameras, that young artists went in search of the ideal of beauty found in antiquity and rediscovered in the Renaissance. As a result of a ten-day practice, students gained experience working with contemporary artists and new media, created objects of contemporary art that do not contradict, but enter into dialogue with the academic tradition.
The masters were the artist, curator of the START project, teacher of the Rodchenko School and the British Higher School of Design Kirill Preobrazhensky; artist, photographer, teacher at the British Higher School of Design, Mikhail Rozanov, as well as producer and director, founder of the Praktika Theater, Polytheater and the Golden Mask festival Eduard Boyakov.
The exposition presents a collective diary, the role of words in which is given to visual images. Every day of Italian travel is documented in photographs and videos. The material selected as a result of the trip was housed in an exposition built in the tradition of the classical Roman basilica. In the apse - a film created by the participants using the commedia dell’arte all’improviso method. The characters of the comedy of masks performed by young artists improvise in given locations and circumstances, which change according to the plan of the authors. Thanks to the new optics, antique images find their place in the context of the history of modern art. The exhibition features photographs, sketches and a video film.
