The Artmuz Museum will host the first exhibition in Russia of the Odessa artist and poet Oleg Son from the collection of the collector Nadezhda Moreva. The poetic exhibition is a retrospective of his multifaceted work over more than 40 years of work.
The poetic nature of the artist is expressed not only in the written texts, but also in the paintings he created. Portraits, landscapes and still lifes are like stanzas of a poem; the author’s handwriting is a drawing in one line, a combination of rigor and weightlessness, postmodern style and careful formation of a new ideal of beauty. The exposition is dominated by a female portrait, the images are recreated laconically, in the most essential way, and plot works tell about the tragic doom of a person in the world. Still lifes in soft pastel colors reveal the artist as a colorist with an academic background: his complex color schemes are achieved by optical mixing of colors according to the principle of the old masters. Animating the objective world, the author continues the conversation on eternal topics: life, love, death.
Oleg Son is an artist whose life is closely connected with Odessa: here he was born into an artist’s family, studied and participated in exhibitions. "Strophes" at Artmuse will be his first exhibition in Russia, although many of his works have already found their rightful place in collections abroad, from Western Europe to New Zealand. His paintings and drawings for the exhibition were provided to the public by the St. Petersburg collector Nadezhda Moreva, a longtime friend of the artist.
The vernissage of the exhibition in the presence of Nadezhda Moreva will be held on February 11, and the exposition will be open to the public daily until April 5, 2022.
