From 11 June in the gallery "Nagornaya" of the Association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" opens a project of artists of Russia, artists of Russia (from Moscow, Moscow region, Ivanovo) and Beijing (PRC) of the Volga branch of the Russian Academy of Arts and the Creative Union.
Restrictions on earth have existed since the creation of the world. The main source of knowledge about the boundaries of what is permitted was originally generic customs, based on experience and transmitted by word of mouth, which were then reflected in religions and formulated in scripture. Some of the restrictions and prohibitions have been enshrined in the laws of states and governments.
As for photography, initially in the 19th century in staged compositions it followed the visual arts, demonstrating all the limitations existing in society. Photography took revenge on the fine arts in 1918-1919, when the Spanish flu epidemic and the widespread wearing of protective masks became the first national theme of photography.
Then came reportage photography, which reflected the prohibitions in the genre of everyday events, where the main characters were the inhabitants of the urban lower classes, opium smokers, criminals and their victims. At the same time, the photograph also captured fighters for the removal of ethical, social and religious restrictions and prohibitions: representatives of social movements for women’s equality, for joint education and bathing with men, as well as advocates for outdoor sports.
The coronavirus pandemic that has taken over the world in 2020 has introduced new, much stricter restrictive measures than ever applied by states to their residents. The ubiquity of mobile digital photography made it possible, in conditions of forced isolation, to take covid selfies and capture numerous modern signs and artifacts, posting the resulting photographs on the network.
In the new conditions of prolonged isolation and complete uncertainty, work was going on on the "Restriction" project. The project of the Experimental Creative Workshop of the Volga Branch of the Russian Academy of Arts and the art photo section of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia "Restrictions" presented in the monograph demonstrates a wide range of author’s approaches to disclosing the proposed topic, including restrictions caused by the COVID pandemic and natural restrictions, including, natural and formed with human participation.
“I want to emphasize that it is in the hands of the masters that the means of photography make it possible to unite into a single whole and show the philosophy, psychology and moral guidelines of modern man of the XXI century. This was perfectly demonstrated by the works of the participants of the project "Restriction" of the Experimental Creative Workshop PORAH and TSHR ".
