Starting September 1, in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (104 Lenin St., the main exhibition), three works from the KIII funds dedicated to the 190th anniversary of Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy - enlightener, publicist, religious thinker, authoritative opinion will be exhibited in the framework of the project “Exhibition of one painting” which provoked the emergence of a new religious and moral movement - Tolstoyism.
Leo Tolstoy and Sevastopol is an epic written by himself and his contemporaries.
In the work of N.V. Kuzmina "L.N. Tolstoy in Sevastopol ”, presented at the exhibition, in the foreground, on the left side of the picture, is represented the young L.N. Tolstoy in officer uniform. He is sitting at the parapet and talking to the soldiers. In the background is a group of soldiers, defenders of one of the Sevastopol redoubts. The mastery of a free, graceful stylized drawing, a subtle, witty interpretation of the style of the era and the emotional structure of the work conveys the emotional intensity of the captured moment. Through the living freedom of the fast line, which contains a certain irony, the author manages to convey the subtle sensuality of the literary style of the illustrated work, while preserving the originality of his artistic style.
In the Portrait of “L.N. Tolstoy, “made in the technique of engraving by Fedor Vladimirovich Domogatsky, shows how the author managed to convey rigor, democracy and simplicity combined with powerful intelligence. A subtle connoisseur of human souls, an astute psychologist, a brilliant thinker, a talented writer. All this invisibly appears in our eyes in this work. Its severe and powerful appearance is in complete harmony with the surrounding nature.
Leo Tolstoy is an invaluable contribution to the history of Russian literature, to the treasury of world culture.
The exhibition runs until September 11th.
