Georgy Semenovich Vereisky was born in 1886 in Proskurov, Kharkov region. From early childhood he showed the ability to draw, and when he was 9 years old, his parents identified him in a private studio of the artist E. E. Schreider. In this studio, adults were engaged, but Schreider, praising the boy’s abilities, made an exception for him. After George entered the Faculty of Law at Kharkov University, and finished his studies in St. Petersburg. He was convinced that the artist should not only write and draw, but also be a comprehensively developed and educated person, so the years of study at Kharkov and St. Petersburg universities were an important stage for him in life, after which he was fully devoted to art. After the October Revolution, until 1930, he worked in the Hermitage as a keeper of the engraving department. But, even after his departure from the Hermitage, he retained a close relationship with the museum, remaining until the end of his life more than just a guest. Vera Ignatyevna Mukhina (1889 - 1953) is a Soviet sculptor, a student of the famous French sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, who, in turn, studied with Auguste Rodin himself. Her passion for art began with painting, and the first serious lessons were received from Konstantin Yuon, who taught Vera to think in images and symbols. But as soon as the future sculptor took the clay into her hands and tried to make something out of it, she immediately realized what exactly her calling was. She purposefully went to study in Paris at the Bourdelle workshop, where she received all the necessary knowledge and skills needed by a professional sculptor - she learned to “grasp the shape”, think of the object as a whole, highlighting only the necessary details.

In 1944, G. S. Vereisky performed a portrait of V. I. Mukhina in the technique of lithography. Vereisky portrayed Mukhina in her workshop, where, among the works on the background, there is a sketch for Vera’s most famous work “Worker and Collective Farm Girl”. The artist depicted the protagonist as concentrated, immersed in work. Vereisky pays special attention to portrait features, carefully conveying the individual features of the sculptor, he "tells" us about the strict and firm character of the heroine. A special role is played by the image of the hands. Hands are an important element in any portrait; they are, to no lesser extent, a reflection of a person’s temperament, character and life course. Thin fingers are a hallmark of a creative and talented person.
