Mikhail Varfolomeevich Leblanc is a Russian artist and graphic artist, teacher, master of landscape, portrait and genre painting, member of the Union of Russian Artists, one of the founders of the Free Art and United Art societies.
Leblanc was born in Orel to a wealthy merchant family. He received his primary art education in 1892-1893 at the private drawing school of P. I. Sychev in Orel. Then he studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under S. A. Korovin, L. O. Pasternak, A. M. Vasnetsov, and in the workshops of V. A. Serov and K. A. Korovin. In 1907, he moved to St. Petersburg and studied for some time at the Higher Art School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture at the Imperial Academy of Arts in the workshop of I. E. Repin. In 1910-1912, he studied at the Grand Chaumière Academy, as well as in the studio of the famous Henri Matisse.
Mikhail Varfolomeevich Leblanc lived in Moscow. In 1913, he organized his own school-studio. Leblanc’s students were V. F. Stepanova, F. S. Bogorodsky, A. A. Pomansky and others.
Currently, the artist’s works adorn the exhibitions of many museum collections in our country, including the State Tretyakov Gallery and the State Russian Museum, as well as numerous private collections in Russia and abroad.
