Until November 7, the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (104 Lenina st., Main exposition) is open. Exhibition of one painting by Konstantin Fedorovich Yuon (1875 - 1958) “In the province. City of Torzhok ". The beginning of the XX century. Canvas, oil.
The work “In the province. City of Torzhok ”refers to the pre-revolutionary period and reflects one of the most popular themes for the artist - the urban landscape. The fact that Konstantin Yuon was born and raised in Moscow largely determined his love for Russian architecture and wide panoramic views. He traveled a lot to the old Russian cities, where he sincerely admired the simple, unpretentious motives of a calm provincial life. It is one of these images that appears before us in a picture dedicated to the city of Torzhok, which is located in the Tver region. The impressionism influence is felt in the painting, but at the same time the impression remains that the artist is recreating not the image of a particular day, but the image of early spring as a whole. The whole space is flooded with sunlight, there is still snow, the horses are still harnessed to the sleigh, and the townspeople are dressed in sheepskin coats, but the sun is already warming, announcing the retreat of winter. The whole image is filled with harmony and tranquility, but at the same time a strong vital energy is felt in it. In the foreground are several groups of people. Their faces are not spelled out, we do not see their emotions, but the mood of the whole work as a whole gives us a clear realization that the people in the picture are full of cheerfulness.
The artist managed to create his own unique, easily recognizable style, while remaining within the framework of realistic painting. Konstantin Yuon is rightfully called the master of landscape, but, in addition, he was engaged in the design of theatrical performances, for several years he worked as director of the Research Institute of Theory and History of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts of the USSR, taught at several educational institutions of art (at the Surikov Moscow Art Institute, at the Repin Institute, at the People’s University of Arts), in 1943 he became a laureate of the Stalin Prize of the first degree, and in 1950 he received the title of People’s Artist of the USSR.
