G. Myasoedov was born with. Pankovo ​​(Tula province.) In the family of a poor landowner, early lost his mother. Having quarreled with his father and not graduating from high school, in ser. 1850s moved to Petersburg. There he entered the Academy of Arts (studied under A. Markov and T. Neff), where he studied until 1862. A large gold medal gave the artist the opportunity to continue his education in Europe from 1863 to 1869. Upon returning to his homeland, G. Myasoedov, together with N. Ge, initiated the creation of TPHV, and later its leading participant and organizer of exhibitions. Since the 1900s lived in Poltava and Crimea.

The most significant works of G. Myasoedov are paintings of the post-reform village (Zemstvo dines (1872), Strada (1887), and others), in which he reflected the life, beauty, and inner strength of the simple Russian people.
