On January 15, an exhibition of one painting, “A., will begin work at the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (103 Lenin St.) Rylov “Landscape. The river.”The exhibition is dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the birth of Arkady Rylov, the famous Russian and Soviet painter who glorified the expanses of his homeland in his landscapes. We can see the most famous works in the Tretyakov Gallery and in the Russian Museum: “Green Noise” (1904, State Russian Museum), “In the Blue Expanse” (1918, State Tretyakov Gallery).
The work “River” presented in the exposition is one of the many sketches that the artist constantly wrote throughout his life. His principle of working on landscapes was as follows: he did many sketches for which he found motives everywhere, and did not experience difficulties in this, because he was inspired by any nature that surrounded him, and everywhere he sought and found something interesting. Working on sketches directly from nature, the artist thereby accumulated artistic material, which he later used in the studio when he began to work on a large painting.
Arkady Aleksandrovich Rylov (January 17 (29), 1870 - June 22, 1939) - a famous Russian and Soviet painter, graphic artist, teacher. Born in the village of Istobensky, located near Vyatka (now the city of Kirov). As a child, he often went fishing with his brothers, they constantly spent the night in a forest in a tent near a fire. This raised a great love of nature in the boy and subsequently had a significant influence on his choice to become a landscape painter.
Arkady Rylov’s father painted in watercolor at one time. He died early, but his paintings, stored in the family, had an impact on the subsequent choice of his son. We must pay tribute to stepfather Alexander Egorovich Witt, who supported Arkady’s passion for art. In 1888, Rylov entered the Baron Stieglitz Art School, where he studied in the studio of Konstantin Kryzhitsky. After he was called up for military service, where he tried to devote all his free time to his favorite hobby. Soon, his talent was noticed among the military and the artist began to give numerous "artistic" assignments, freeing him from military activities. In 1893, while still a soldier, Arkady Rylov passed the exams at the Academy of Arts and was enlisted there as a volunteer. After a year and a half, he was admitted to the landscape workshop of Arkhip Ivanovich Kuindzhi. The new teacher was a strict, but fair person who took care of his students, arranged collective trips to studies, helped those in need with money. Rylov learned a lot from Kuindzhi’s work: emotional tension, dynamics, romantic images, but at the same time he did not become a copycat of his teacher and created his own special landscape style.
Rylov’s early works reflected the impression of nature as a beautiful, fairy-tale world full of unsolved mysteries. Subsequently, the image of the native land remains dominant. Fields, forests and rivers appear in all their glory, full of majestic peace. A special influence on Arcadia was made by Isaac Levitan, in whose works he found a source of inspiration, and from which he learned to see the beauty of the most ordinary, at first glance, unattractive, corners of his native land. He presented the most ordinary and habitual motives in such a way that the attentive spectator, together with the artist, began to enjoy the simple and uncomplicated beauty of the surrounding nature. Arkady Rylov himself once wrote down his following words: “Now I have learned to find motives for studies near me, and as much as I like. I find interesting and unexpected compositions: one and the same place, depending on the time of day, lighting and point of view, presents different paintings. ”
The exhibition runs until February 9th.
