On August 14, the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts (104 Lenin St., main exposition) will open an exhibition of one painting “A.A. Mylnikov "Dream".
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the outstanding Soviet and Russian artists to Andrei Andreevich Mylnikov (02.22.1919 - 05.16.2012). This is one of the brightest representatives of the Russian realistic school of the second half of the 20th century. A. A. Mylnikov took place not only as a painter, but also as a monumental artist, graphic artist, sculptor, teacher. Since 1966 he is a full member of the Academy of Arts. In 1976, A. A. Mylnikov was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the USSR, in 1997 he became Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Arts.
In his work A. A. Mylnikov continued the humanistic and lyrical traditions of Russian and European painting of the 19th-20th centuries. He quite early abandoned the socialist-realist canons adopted in his time. Under the influence of examples of classical world art, the master developed his own artistic style. His legacy is multifaceted - these are monumental paintings, panels, mosaics, epic paintings, portraits, landscapes, still lifes, sculptures and graphic works.
A.A. Mylnikov also took place as a talented teacher who made a huge contribution to the development and improvement of art education. Since 1953, he served as the head of the department of painting and composition at the I.E. Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, since 1960 he is the head of the creative workshop of monumental painting of the Russian Academy of Arts.
A.A. Mylnikov - the largest figure in contemporary fine art of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries, his work is well known in Russia and abroad. His works are in the best museums in the country and abroad, in private collections.
The collection of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts contains only one work of A. A. Mylnikov - cardboard for the stained glass window “Dream”, executed in 1969. In this work, the artist embodied the eternal theme of world art - the beauty and perfection of the naked human body, which has been known since ancient times. In different eras, different contents were invested in it.
The aesthetic value of the image of a naked man in the bosom of nature is a theme of harmony between man and nature, as an idea of spiritual and physical perfection. The interest in nudity has always been a testament to the maturity of art. The high significance of this motive in art was also understood by A. A. Mylnikov, he embodied it in the paintings “Dream” (1969) and “Morning” (1972). These works became landmarks in his work. One of the options for the painting “Dream”, the artist decided to transfer to a work of monumental art - a stained-glass window, for the execution of which cardboard was executed.
The canvas depicts a young naked woman sleeping on the shore of a quiet blue lake. The artist managed to convey the organic connection of man with nature. The beauty of nudity is akin to the beauty of nature and tranquility in the landscape. The female figure is marked by soft plasticity, it is organically inscribed in the landscape. The naked woman in Mylnikov’s painting has become an allegory of the beautiful world in which a person should live who makes him happy and pure.
The exhibition runs until September 15th.
