In the gallery "Peresvetov Lane" will open the exhibition "General Place", based on a selection of works by students of the Institute named after I.E. Repin of St. Petersburg - drawings on the theme of public urban space.
At the beginning of the second year, students of the graphic department of the St. Petersburg Institute named after I. Repin received a task in the discipline "composition" from their teacher, artist Leonid Tskhe.
“Usually, a whole semester is allotted for its implementation,” Leonid explains, “and as a rule, this is a task on traditional naphthalene topics -“ war ”,“ letter ”,“ evening in the village ”- which have been used since Soviet times, since The 1970s for sure, and for which cliches have long been worked out: how to do it, “under Mylnikov,” “under Moiseenko,” and so on. I decided to give live themes for which there can be no templates in stock. The children themselves had to look for everything from scratch, create their own aesthetic designs, images, without focusing on battered patterns. ”
As a result, each student took three or four sheets and drew what he accidentally saw or deliberately spied: street clashes, people descending on an escalator in the subway, crowds in the corridors of clinics, passengers in a trolley bus, babies in wheelchairs. Georgy Khazankin painted with color pencils the series “Dormitory” with traditional scenes (partially nude) from student life. Alexandra Lazareva painstakingly sketched hamburgers, french fries, as well as workers and visitors to the McDonald’s restaurant. Natalya Pavlovskaya’s drawings are dedicated to the inhabitants of the St. Petersburg metro, and the works of Yegor Shchablykin to passengers of St. Petersburg trolleybuses. Alyona Zmienko chose the open spaces of the sleeping area and its inhabitants as a topic: the twilight playground, a teenager with a broken nose, and a baby in a stroller. And Valeria Kuznetsova painted a long frieze in the spirit of medieval Western European miniatures and the Early Renaissance, which depicts students, teachers and sitters living on a regular weekday in the interiors of the graphics department. Marina Stakhieva described three scenes from the life of a village in the Komi Republic, where she traditionally goes on vacation: everyday life, everyday scenes, themes of birth, death, harvest, as in Brueghel and Petrov-Vodkin.
According to students, they painted places in which “dramas unfold, depressions occur, everyday life is happening - the way it is.” According to Leonid Tskhe, in the works of his students, he discovered the traditions of depicting Russian life, the influence of the Wanderers, the world of art and, in many ways, the French school of graphic works by Honore Daumier and Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec.
