The exposition includes more than 100 works of painting, graphics, sculpture and arts and crafts created by Russian artists on Liberty Island.
Exhibition “Oh, Havana! Transit…” is an academic art and educational project organized by the Department of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Academy of Arts and the Bureau of Creative Expeditions. Havana was first photographed at the beginning of the 20th century by the Russian Vasily Vereshchagin. After the Cuban Revolution of 1950-1960s. Soviet artists, academicians of the Russian Academy of Arts Pyotr Ossovsky and Viktor Ivanov worked on the island of freedom. Later they were joined by Vladimir Pereyaslavets, Ivan Sushchenko, Boris Korzhevsky, Pavel Sudakov, and the outstanding sculptor Lev Kerbel. In the 2000s, Russian artists regained their interest in working in Cuba. The result was a number of creative expeditions to the Island of Freedom under the leadership of the artist, culturologist and public figure Vladimir Nikolayevich Anisimov. At different times, the artists participating in these trips captured on their canvases the charm of Havana, the beauty of the local nature and the smiles of the inhabitants of the sunny island. Many famous Cubans and ordinary residents of the capital also posed for them.
The themes of the works are varied: from the pathos of the revolution to Cuban landscapes and carnival, from portraits of prominent figures of Cuba to a sculptural composition depicting the meeting of Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis, which took place in 2016 in one of the halls of the José Marti airport. The exhibition makes a tour of the cities of the Urals, Siberia and the Far East, in order to end up in Moscow in one of the central metropolitan exhibition complexes.
Exhibition “Oh, Havana! Transit…” will work at the Gallery of Siberian Art (Karl Marx St., 23) until April 3. Phone for inquiries and appointments for excursions: 33-43-89. We remind you of the need to observe the mask regime and social distance when visiting the museum. Tickets are available on the Pushkin card.
