The Invisible Values exhibition is a manifestation of the creative activism of two young artists Nadezhda Avdienko and Ekaterina Krotenko. According to the authors, the architecture of Yevpatoriya is underestimated and perceived as something mundane. As a result, monuments of architectural heritage become desolate and eventually collapse. This usually applies to buildings of the Soviet period and pre-revolutionary residential architecture. Girls see one of the oldest cities in Crimea differently.
- Our message to residents and guests of the city is that Yevpatoriya is not only a children’s resort, but also the cradle of Crimean architecture. - says Ekaterina Krotenko.
Young artists Yekaterina Krotenko and Nadezhda Avdienko will invite Yevpatorians and city guests to a dialogue on the peculiarities of the appearance of city buildings, talk about Soviet aesthetics and fonts, southern art nouveau and the atmosphere of Yevpatoriya as a whole.
Ekaterina Krotenko will present architectural silk-screen printing of hand prints. The artist received higher education in St. Petersburg (SPbGUPTD) and Helsinki (Aalto University) with specialization in interior design and subject design, modern crafts and experimenting with materials. Ekaterina is a laureate of several prestigious design awards; Her works are published in professional magazines and presented in galleries in Moscow and Helsinki. The girl is interested in the history of art, design and architecture, topics of dialogue between history and modernity, abandoned architecture and its renovation.
Nadezhda Avdienko masterfully speaks the language of calligraphy. She studied at the branch of the Kiev Academy of Arts and Architecture, in 2014 she was transferred to St. Petersburg (SPGHPA them. Stieglitz), specializing in graphic design.
- It is difficult to make a beautiful design using only typeset fonts. Therefore, I decided to study this problem more deeply. In the beginning I was fond of calligraphy, having tried many styles, from rustic to Old Slavonic writing, but the correctness of calligraphy does not give that freedom, those images that I want to convey. - says Nadezhda. - Next went the experiments with the styles and form of letters. Often they led to the fact that readability disappeared and the familiar text took the form of expressive spots, which has little to do with design. I had to learn a new technique - lettering - the art of drawing letters. That’s how work turned into a hobby, and a hobby into a job.
Now Nadezhda is engaged in branding, development of lettering logos and many other things related to letters.
About Screen Printing:
The printed graphics presented at the exhibition were created by the technique of obtaining the fingerprint manually, through the stencil of the exposed fabric covered with a photo emulsion. The initial images for the stencil were a combination of photography and graphics with a brush and ink. A feature of the technique is the volume and expressive materiality of the image, since each color is applied in a separate layer.
About calligraphy and lettering:
The exhibition presents works in the technique of calligraphy and lettering. Calligraphy is the art of designing signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner; provides for work with a brush. Lettering is the art of rendering letters. Various materials are used here, such as a pencil and a brush. The main difference between these two techniques is live writing in the first case and persistent rendering in the second.
The exhibition will be held from July 14 to 29
