Ceramic Department of the Irkutsk Art College. I. L. Kopylova was discovered in 1963. The People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Arts, master of glass artwork Boris Timofeevich Bychkov became the initiator of its creation and the first teacher in ceramic composition. It was he who managed to raise the work of the department to the proper creative level. He managed to select the indispensable professionals for this department, organize the training and work process. A significant role in mastering the technology of ceramic production was played by Alexey Shtanko, Vladimir Agafonov, Lyudmila Nazarova, Svetlana Tavolzhanskaya. Since 1990, the leading teacher is Lyudmila Nikolaevna Nazarova, a graduate of the Irkutsk Art College and Sverdlovsk State University, the director of the college.
Over the 55 years of its existence, about 400 students graduated from the ceramic department. Many of them continued their education at higher art educational institutions in Moscow, Leningrad, Krasnoyarsk, and became highly qualified specialists. The Irkutsk Art School is proud of its graduates, among which there are many famous masters who shape the art life of Irkutsk: Georgy Borisov, Andrei Polyanitsa, Svetlana Uvarova and others.
