March 6 in the gallery "Belyaevo" Association "Exhibition Halls of Moscow" will open the exhibition "Mosaic collections. Islands ”, which will feature works by leading artists of Russian mosaic art.
The authors of the project turn to modern mosaic, considering it not only as a separate decorative element of a holistic architectural image, but also as a self-contained work of art, a conceptual object, a carrier of a certain cultural code.
The exhibition includes works from personal collections of famous Russian mosaic artists. Here you can see the monumental works of Alexander Kornoukhov, who revealed to the modern world a new face of Soviet and Russian mosaics, creating a mosaic appearance of the personal basilica of the Pope in the Vatican. Felix Buch, who takes the viewer away with his creations from deaf natural stones and bright smalt to the world of children’s dreams, biblical stories, ancient legends and traditions. Sergey Karlov, a self-taught artist from Altai, drawing inspiration from the Khakass epic. The sophisticated technique of his work combines the techniques of the Florentine mosaic, which allows you to make complex curly contours, with laconic techniques of Roman mosaic. As well as subtle and romantic mosaics of Anna Zamula, Alina Batalina, Tatyana Dubovskaya, Yulia Pukhareva, unexpected and vivid images of Boris Zinkevich, Irina Kuchmenko, mosaic panels of Alexei Zhuchkov, Maria Skurikhina, glass mosaics by Anna Butina, urban scenic landscapes, breathing through the air of history.
Mosaic collections are accompanied by autobiographical essays, personal memories, stories of the project participants, as well as an archive section, which presents the Soviet period of mosaic art in photographs and texts, which allows you to build a holistic narrative about the key representatives of Russian mosaic art, see the connections of the Soviet past of monumental and decorative art and modern present.
