May 19 at the Gilyarovsky Center opens the exhibition "Moscow Jazz". This is a joint project of the Gilyarovsky Center, the Union of Young Talents Foundation, the Jazz Research Center with the participation of children from the Klass-Center school. The exhibition will work as part of the international youth festival-contest Drumsfest Russia, the main program of which will be held at the Museum of Moscow.
The Moscow Jazz exhibition is the history of the development of jazz in Moscow from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day. The main milestones of jazz history will be presented on two floors of the Gilyarovsky Center. Guests of the exhibition will learn about the pioneers of jazz in the USSR - Valentin Parnakh, Alexander Tsfasman, Leonid Utesov, get acquainted with the "era of extension of saxophones" and the fight against cosmopolitanism, trace the rapid development of domestic jazz after 1957 and the Khrushchev "thaw". It will also be possible to learn about jazz ensemble festivals, to see cafes in which jazz was performed - "Youth", "Aelita" and "Blue Bird". Finally, the exposition will tell about the “small ice age” in the history of jazz from the second half of the 70s to the first half of the 80s. And of course, guests will hear a story about the role and place of jazz in modern Russia.
A special place in the exposition is dedicated to the establishment of a jazz school in Moscow and the history of two jazz drummers, Vladimir Vasilkov and Anatoly Makurov, who from 2010 to 2013 supported the international youth festival-contest Drumsfest Russia as jury members and teachers of master classes.
