On June 6 at 16.00 in the Gallery of Siberian Art (Karl Marx St., 23) the opening of an exhibition will take place for significant anniversaries that are associated with the life and work of the Roerich family: 150 years since the birth of the artist, writer, scientist Nicholas Roerich; 145 years since the birth of the artist’s wife Helena Roerich; 120 years since the birth of the artist’s son Svyatoslav Roerich and the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Central Asian expedition.
The exhibition features more than 60 reproductions of the artist’s paintings and tablets dedicated to the biography and activities of Nicholas Roerich. Nicholas Roerich was born on October 9, 1874 in St. Petersburg in the family of the famous notary Konstantin Fedorovich Roerich. After graduating from high school, Nikolai simultaneously entered the Faculty of Law of St. Petersburg University and the Imperial Academy of Arts. Since 1895 he studied in the studio of Arkhip Kuindzhi. In 1906, Nicholas Roerich was elected director of the drawing school of the Society for the Encouragement of Arts, and in 1909 - academician of the Russian Academy of Arts and soon headed the newly created art association “World of Art”.
The creative heritage of Nicholas Roerich is enormous. He painted more than seven thousand canvases, not counting church frescoes and monumental paintings in public buildings, as well as sketches for mosaics, scenery for musical productions and architectural projects.
