On April 26, the Pro art`s gallery will present in Kaluga a version of the large-scale mobile project “Metageography - Images of Space in the Age of Globalization”, which has already been presented at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, Voronezh, London and Vladivostok.
Metageography is a field of knowledge that is at the intersection of philosophy, art and science. From the point of view of metageography, the whole space is perceived as invented and constructed, and the attention of this discipline is aimed at understanding the images of space in the modern era. Since the late 1960s, when regular air communications began and the first images of the Earth were taken from space, ideas about space and time, the boundaries of local and global, the categories of “far” and “close”, “inside” and “outside” underwent a radical revision. Having torn off from the Earth for a while, people have not gone anywhere and are forced to rethink themselves in the earth’s space and master it through imagination and action.
In the modern world, physical reality, achievable or only conceivable, is complemented by virtual. And the meta-georgaphia aims to construct an image of a new space and a new person who has previously unthinkable freedom of movement, becomes a nomad (nomad) who breaks away from his place, wanders and hangs in an imaginary “nowhere”.
The project combines the experiences of artists of different generations from the 1970s to the 2000s: May Miturich, Mark Ulupov, Garif Basyrov, Pavel Otdelnov, Evgenia Buravleva and Egor Plotnikov.
