October 1, 2015 at 16-00 in the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts will open the exhibition "Masters of the Kaluga Fine Arts", dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the Kaluga Regional Branch of the Union of Artists of Russia. The exhibition will feature more than 70 works of art: painting, graphics, sculpture and arts and crafts from the collection of the Kaluga Museum of Fine Arts.
Sixty years ago, the Kaluga branch of the Union of Artists of Russia arose. In the artistic life of our region, this event became a landmark. In fact, this date clearly marked the completion of formation and the beginning of the rapid development of professional fine art.
As you know, in the years 1929-1944 Kaluga was a district city of the Tula region. And, of course, this could not but affect the activities of the local artistic community, often hindering the realization of its creative potential, which was already initially, by the way, considerable. But already in the first post-war years, the artistic life of Kaluga, which became the regional center, acquires a completely new warehouse. Kaluzhans become masters of painting in the Russian province. G.A.Abramov moves from Tula to Kaluga, L.A. Klimentovskaya from Kaliningrad, I.Z. Pushkarev from Smolensk, and N.N. Yaskov from Yelets. The indigenous Kaluga people A.G. Gagarin and V.P. Lyubimov by this time were already quite mature artists. The activities of the older generation of painters continue - T.A. Kalashnikov, L.E. Mezhekova. The real masters are still very young at that time I.A. Pavlishak, G.I. Dukhanov.
It was these masters who made up the core of the Kaluga Union of Soviet Artists, which spun off in early 1955 from the Union of Soviet Artists of Tula and Kaluga. And the first leader of this association was the painter Gagarin.
Throughout its development, Kaluga art was engaged in a thorough artistic and intellectual work, and very, very fruitful. And this work was constantly carried out in dialogue and in cooperation with our regional art museum. Until 1979, when the Artist’s House was built with a large exhibition hall, the main art exhibitions were held in museum rooms. The policy of purchasing works of Kaluga artists for the museum collection was very well-defined and targeted. Kaluga museum workers participated - and participate! - in a wide variety of artistic events - from "Creative Thursdays" to plein airs. An already established tradition has become the Gift Days, organized by the museum on the eve of June 12 - the museum’s birthday and the Day of Russia.
It seems that cooperation to some extent affects the direction of development of the Kaluga fine art, and the results of this development. And the results are obvious: the jubilee exhibition to some extent demonstrates the diversity of searches of local artists, and the high, truly museum, art level of many works stored in our museum.
The curator of the exhibition is Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, researcher at the KIIII - V.M. Obukhov
