February 13 at 16.00 in the Estate V.P. Sukachev (st. December Events, 112) opens the exhibition "Magic of the fan." The exposition includes European and Eastern fans of the XIX – XX centuries, as well as other household items from the funds of the Irkutsk Art Museum and private collections. More than 70 exhibits show pages of the history of society, reflecting the style, fashion, mentality and even the philosophy of their time.
Visitors will see both European and Eastern fans. The exhibition will allow you to appreciate the variety of forms, styles, as well as materials: wood, ivory, tortoise shell, fabric, silk, paper. The main part of the collection is made up of items from China and Japan, which entered the Irkutsk Art Museum from the All-Russian Institute of Arms and Art History (East Siberian Branch of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society). Part of the exhibits was transferred by the Museum of Oriental Cultures (Moscow) in 1960. In 1994, the Irkutsk Art Museum acquired fans belonging to the wife of the founder of the museum, Nadezhda Vladimirovna Sukacheva. Museum staff and an old Spanish fan are called a rare exhibit. Its plates are made of tortoise-shell, and on the paper screen of the fan is printed the picture of the famous French artist Jacques Louis David “The Sabine”.
The exhibition “Magic of the Fan” will open on February 13 at 16.00 in the Estate of V.P. Sukacheva (st. December Events, 112) and will work until March 22. Entrance to the opening is free.
